Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market continues to expand

As the old adage goes, one person’s junk is another’s treasure. It was five years ago that Lindsey Holt and Coley Arnold took their passion for used items, rich with character and history, and turned it into a business concept called Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market. Vendors sell everything from one-of-a-kind furniture to handmade jewelry and antique typewriters.

“We have such a variety of vendors. The big industrial pieces remain popular and midcentury modern styles are becoming more sought after,” Arnold said.

Holt and Arnold began by hosting their own vintage market in the backyard of a friend’s home. The duo had no idea how successful Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market would become. As a first year event, they had 23 vendors and roughly 600 people show up throughout the day, and the event was held entirely in a residential neighborhood. Eventually Junk in the Trunk relocated to a larger venue, WestWorld of Scottsdale. It continues to reside at the multiuse space during a single weekend every spring and fall.

“Our business is experiencing significant growth each year. We plan to continue expanding what we offer our shoppers by offering more opportunities to shop,” Arnold said.

Last year’s event hosted a record-breaking 35,000 people. And the market’s momentum certainly hasn’t slowed down, adding a third day to its recent May extravaganza in Phoenix, and now expanding to an event in San Diego.

“Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market San Diego is a brand new experience for us,” Holt said. “We’ve already heard many of our die-hard junkers will be traveling from Arizona to come to that market. We also hope to expand our brand in the Southern California region and attract a new following there.”

The Vintage Market will take place at Liberty Station, a former naval training center that has been converted into an outdoor space designed for community events. The location’s historical significance makes it the perfect backdrop for shoppers that are interested in repurposed goods and artifacts from bygone eras.

Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market San Diego will be held the weekend of July 16 and 17.
