Artist enters coloring world

In late 2015, the world was swept by the new phenomenon of coloring books for adults. These coloring books have become all the rage and a great way for adults to relax and unwind after a long day.

Local artist Skye Lucking has put her own spin on this craze: positivity.

“My latest coloring book, Prismagic, is all about being positive and having positive mantras while coloring,” says Lucking. “I want to quite literally spread positivity.”

Prismagic, Lucking’s second adult coloring book, features positive messages at the bottom of each page. The goal is that the fun and relaxation that comes from coloring is sprinkled with positive mantras.

Lucking served two years in the Peace Corps, where she met her husband. From there, they moved around a few places, including a stint in Argentina where Lucking first started tapping into her creative side. Lucking’s work has been featured in galleries in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and Argentina.

The transfer from paintings to coloring books was an easy one for Lucking.

“I’ve had people come up to me saying that my paintings would be perfect for coloring,” said Lucking. “So I just went with it and haven’t looked back since.”

Lucking’s coloring book does more than spread positivity to those who purchase the coloring book, she is aiming to lift the spirts of those who are in need.

“Every month, I choose an organization to donate to. It’s important to me to give back and give a little joy to those who are going through hard times,” said Lucking.

Since the launch of Prismagic in November 2015, Lucking has donated over $500 in books to Phoenix VA Community Living Center; Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Arizona; Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children; and the National Association of Social Workers, Arizona Chapter.

Next, Lucking wants to create other coloring products such as postcards, note cards and posters.
