Bravo
Bistro
4327
N Scottsdale Rd ~ 480-481-7614
Billy Collins, our nation’s Poet Laureate wrote a poem titled
Osso Buco which I would love to share with you word for word. I
don’t really need the poem to introduce one of my new favorite
places to dine but being sued for copyright violation by the national
Laureate has always been a fantasy of mine. Unfortunately, my article
has an economy of words which will not accommodate my childish whims.
On one of these December nights when the mercury in Scottsdale
is dipping below 60, when it’s so cold, you can ice fish the
canal, Bravo Bistro will be fending off the chill with Cabernet
Sauvignon and Osso Buco worthy of a Laureate’s pen.
Bravo has been around for many years but they seem to fly under
the radar. It’s a small restaurant, like a Bistro should be.
It has an intimate atmosphere and a kitchen which chooses to create
simple New York Italian classics like Linguini and Clam Sauce or
Veal Piccata, but done so well, you’ll think it’s the
first time you tried it. There’s a lighter Mediterranean side
to the menu as well. Try the Chicken Mediterranean or the Paella
when you want to follow dinner with carousing the Scottsdale nightlife.
While the Osso Buco was my favorite, I have to mention that the
Filet Mignon was one of the best I’ve ever had, firstly, because
Bravo buys the best beef around and secondly, instead of the fancy
ovens and searing techniques used by a lot of steakhouses, they
give it a light breading to keep the juices in and then cover it
with a lemon garlic sauce and capers to put a crisp snappy taste
against the beef, similar to how Argentines use chimichuri.
Upstairs, Bravo has created a lounge with a patio overlooking Scottsdale
Road. We moved our check upstairs for coffee and dessert and ended
up lingering for drinks as well.
