Daily Dose
4020 N. Scottsdale Road | 480-994-3673
Friends had raved about the breakfast offerings at Daily Dose, located just south of Indian School Road. But we decided instead to try it for a casual dinner.
Owners Matt and JenLyn Long also own Fusion on Buckboard Trail, and they had definitely carried over their culinary talents to this affordable Old Town location.
The L-shaped space has a good-sized patio with plenty of seating under umbrellas. Inside, there are three booths and a couple of tables along windows that face Scottsdale Road, and farther back is a larger lounge area with a long banquette lining the length of the wall opposite tables and chairs.
We started with a couple of appetizers but when they arrived, we realized we should have split one instead. The crisp corn chips of the chicken nachos (&7.95) were covered in an avalanche of goodies—grilled chunks of tender white meat chicken, melted Oaxaca cheese, cilantro-tinged sour cream, fresh guacamole and a delicious tomatillo salsa.
Our crispy Firecracker Chicken ($7.95) consisted of three skewers loaded with breaded chunks of chicken to dip in an interesting spicy ginger white sauce alongside a fiery, chipotle coleslaw. We were pleased our attentive waitress was always nearby to refill our water glasses.
Most other diners were making their way through the restaurant’s ample alcohol menu. There is a huge variety of beers, wines, margaritas and mixed drinks.
Companion decided to make a meal of the dozen chicken wings that come tossed in a traditional hot or honey orange sauce, along with plenty of carrot and celery sticks. His choice of the traditional sauce paired nicely with the chipotle ranch for dipping.
I had a hard time deciding between the Daily Dose Burger ($9.95), a blend of Australian Kobe beef and ground chuck with aged cheddar, apple wood smoked bacon and shaved onion, versus the Old Town Stack ($11.95). The Stack won, and I was more than pleased. A multi-grain bread stacked with tender shaved prime rib and melted Swiss cheese was set off to perfection by a sweet onion slaw beneath tomato and Romaine lettuce.
The Daily Dose offers a variety of salads such as a tradition Caesar ($6.95) along with fantastic toppers to add, like red chili salmon (4$.95) or blue crab ($6.95). The toppers are available on the Eggs Benedict choices during breakfast hours (7 a.m. to 2 p.m.) along with a choice of omelets, egg and bacon dishes, pancakes, waffles and wrap sandwiches.
Daily Dose Hours: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday – Wednesday; 7 a.m. to Midnight Thursday-Saturday. |
