Sugahbeat. It’s probably a name that sounds familiar to Arcadians who have lived in the area for awhile, but I didn’t become familiar with them until we started the October edition and I saw them rockin’ out at OHSO a couple weeks ago.

Sugahbeat is a local band comprised of Katherine Reckling, Mark Reckling, Hai Jung Choi, Derric Butler and Robert Cote.

Long-time Phoenicians might remember Mark and Katherine as the band Azz Izz, which was started around 1997. When the couple decided to start a family, they put music on hold and focused on their real estate company, Reckling Properties. It wasn’t long before the music started calling for them again, and seven years ago, Sugahbeat was created.

I met the group at one of their Sunday sessions at the Paradise Valley OHSO, which also happens to be their home base (at the location in Arcadia). They even have a beer named after them! The group recently added something to their accomplishments when they opened for UB40 at the Marquee Theatre in August.

October has a plethora of things going on, from neighborhood picnics to gallery openings, from haunted houses to breast cancer 5Ks; it’s hard to know when to stop and take a breath sometimes, but we’re here to help. Take a seat, settle in and get ready to enjoy October’s edition of Arcadia News.

We love staying in touch with our amazing community, so please keep sending us your story ideas to and as always, thank you for reading Arcadia News.
