Arcadia is full of thoughtful people. In the years I have worked for the Arcadia News, I’ve heard countless stories of individuals doing kind and generous acts of service for those who are in need. But what is truly impressive is when you see that caring spirit coming from even the youngest members of the community.

We’ve got two of those stories in our March edition. Ingleside Middle School student Emma Jazo decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day by collecting teddy bears for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She passed around over 200 fliers asking for donations, and ended up with 85 stuffed animals donated to the hospital.

Also getting in on the giving spirit were four Arcadia freshmen boys, who created a group called Kidz 4 Causes, which focuses on rare diseases. Xander Black, Matthew Linhart, Michael Bendok and Samuel Steiner teamed up to raise over $50,000 through their fundraising efforts! Stories like these would make anyone proud to be a part of the Arcadia community.

March means spring is here, and with that comes people heading outdoors. But humans aren’t the only ones excited about soaking in the beautiful weather. This is the perfect time of year for outings with your dogs, and we’ve got that covered in this issue! Help your dog learn impeccable manners at a local obedience school, before taking him or her out to one of the many great walking locations around the neighborhood.

The winter sports season has ended, and we were fortunate to be near so many successful schools and teams this year. In fact, there were too many to single any out, so we put together a playoff wrap up, where you can find out how the year ended for soccer and basketball teams at Xavier, Veritas and Arcadia High School.

This edition of the Arcadia News also has a history of Scottsdale Fashion Square, a look into the controversial bikes that have been lying around, and of course, our annual Camp Guide to prepare you for the upcoming summer.

As always, I encourage you to reach out to me with any story ideas, suggestions or feedback. Many of our best neighborhood stories are made possible by local readers who contact us. We hope you enjoy the March 2018 edition – and thank you for reading the Arcadia News!
