Just out of curiosity, do any of our readers have a nickname for the father figure in their lives? For the past ten years, I’ve called my dad Pumbaa. I can’t remember how the nickname came about, but he liked it so much he got a tattoo of the warthog character from The Lion King on his arm – a tribute to what, I think, is the greatest nickname ever. Happy Father’s Day to all the awesome “pumbaas” out there!

We’d like to congratulate all the graduates of our local schools and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Arcadia High started a new Grad Walk tradition and we took all of our Teachers We Love out for Happy Hour!

We’ve also got some music: The Traveler band, a mix of Celtic gypsy, rock, reggae and middle-eastern genres, and the 32nd St. All-Star Jazz Band, a group of students who traveled to New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival – something they all look back on with pride, according to teacher and “band manager” Dave Rowe.

Our Summer Vacation Photo Spread will happen again this year, so make sure to send photos to editor@arcadianews.com for a chance to be in the September issue. Your photo might be on the cover! The deadline to send in photos is August 8.

Happy summer days to you all, and thank you for reading the Arcadia News,
