Other Arcadias

The root of the word Arcadia can be traced to a province in Greece. Through the years, the name has become a poetic synonym for utopia. This Arcadia, in Phoenix, Arizona, was named by its creators in 1919, who marketed it as a “garden-like area, bathed in golden sunshine and reflected from the gray and purple shadows of the surrounding desert.”
